Has the astonishing pace and scale of urbanization over the last hundred years contributed to human well-being? The city, in the words of urban sociologist Robert Park, is: I here want to explore another type of human right, that of the right to the city. We live, after all, in a world in which the rights of private property and the profit rate trump all other notions of rights. But for the most part the concepts circulating do not fundamentally challenge hegemonic liberal and neoliberal market logics, or the dominant modes of legality and state action. A great deal of energy is expended in promoting their significance for the construction of a better world. Students are required to take 15 UC quarter (10 semester) units.W e live in an era when ideals of human rights have moved centre stage both politically and ethically. Students are advised to carefully consult course syllabi and weekly schedule before making travel plans that would conflict with academic or internship responsibilities. Semester with Internship Program Overviewĭuring the first five weeks of their Paris program, semester with internship students will take one upper-division 4.5 UC quarter (3.0 semester) unit content course, which meets for thirty-eight hours over the five week period.ĭuring their eleven weeks in Paris, semester with internship students will also take one lower-division 6.0 UC quarter (4.0 semester) unit City and Language course, which meets for sixty hours over the eleven week period.Īdditionally, semester with internship students will have an eleven-week Internship and Workforce course, worth 4.5 upper-division UC quarter (3.0 semester) units.
